ABOUT ME
PhD, Yale University, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
BA, Cornell University, Biological Sciences / English
Pronouns: she/her/hers
I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Biology department at Sacred Heart University. Previously, I was an Associate Research Scientist at Northeastern University Marine Science Center and the Metro Boston Regional Coordinator for MassBays National Estuary Partnership. I bring a unique breadth of experience to my research and teaching, and as a result of almost 10 years of experience in New England, I have established partnerships with local, regional, and state agencies and a network of stakeholder groups, all of which allow me to develop projects that bridge the gap between basic and applied science.
I am also an academic mother, navigating parenting little ones (during a pandemic!). In addition to research and teaching, I plan to continue to advocate for students, staff, and faculty with diverse family structures who are trying to navigate the ‘work-life teeter-totter’ (Sponberg 2019) that is academia, with the long-term goal of addressing systemic inequities.
“Rather than rebuilding what we once knew, let us be the architects of a new world.”
Beyond academia…
I had a wonderful rescue dog named Tarzan. He was a terrific hiking companion and never missed an opportunity to get in the water, whether it be a rushing river in the spring, a muddy/smelly vernal pond in the summer, a crystal clear lake in the fall, or the ocean in the winter. He was even known to help with shore support for diving field work on occasion… He was the BEST DOG and is missed every day.
I love to cook and bake. I take advantage of every opportunity to make science-themed baked goods and celebrate birthdays, achievements, etc. of labmates with a sweet treat!
